On Being “Too Much”

I was reading an Opinion piece by the amazing Danielle LaPorte, of Desire Map fame and awesomeness.

She was talking about being “too much,” and how harmful it is to be told that you are “too this” or “too that” especially by men.

I get it.

I know what it’s like to not move into your greatness because of someone saying “you’re too….x or y or z”

Been there done that, so now I’m going to offer a bit of a deeper take on it darlings…

As women who desire to walk in power and greatness, it is time for us to grow up. The reality is Men are permitted their opinions. Yes, even about us. Everyone is permitted to have an opinion. Opinions aren’t oppressive unless you acknowledge the one with the opinion as having power over you. Without that agreement. The opinion means very little, except to the one holding it.

In other words, if your words are oppressive to me, it means I have given my power to you.

Wow.

Think about that.
Empowerment means owning my experience. It means saying “yes, perhaps I am too much… for you.” It means respecting that you don’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea in order to be happy. Nor do others, including men, have to pretend that they have no preference to make room for your greatness.

The room is innate. It’s always there.

You are free and so are they. Their opinion of you is none of your business, and yet, that doesn’t mean you get to decide they should not have one. That is Liberty for all my darling. That’s what it looks like. And the beauty is that even the contrast is absolutely Divine.

I love your face!
